Is It Possible To Catch A Train From This Abandoned Railway?
Can you really catch a Train from this Disused Railway?
The Macclesfield Bollington and Marple Railway was Recommended for closuse in the 1960s on the Beeching Report. Amazingly it outlasted many railway lines on the Beeching Report lasting up until 1970. One of the final Beeching Closures if not the last?
In Part 2 i begin at Higher Poynton, i head on towards the site of Middlewood Higher Station & High Lane Station. Finally we arrive at Rose Hill Marple Station where this section of railway is still open.

it all has a similar look to a lot of the DVA architecture that was built around that time in derbyshire notts and Leicestershire. very interesting. the DVA was an amazing achievement, taking water from the Derwent Dams all the way to the 3 counties in the early 1900s all by syphon. you would be truly amazed by some of the architecture if you like this building.

At Higher Poynton station there was a signal box right next to the Lyme road over-bridge, built actually on the south bound platform with a very restricted view of the track to the north. There is a photo of it in Basil Jeuda's book "Railways of the Macclesfield District" The signal box closed in 1966. I only just was on the platform on a walk to Lyme Park today 17/06/24!

I used the station at Middlewood to buy studio equipment at Highlane Village. The walk through the woodland to access the A6 is so unique. Is this the only one like that in England? There is a wooden sign nailed to a tree saying, "To the Station," like something from a wild west movie.

We were treated to a stage show in London and had to take the train to London, I love the train journey and so we went via St leonards Warrior Square then changed to take the train up to Charing Cross, 2 hours and I love the scenery and seeing the old stations on the way.

Rose Hill Marple and Manchester to Sheffield via Marple had the last class 101 Diesel Multiple Units in the country and were withdrawn after 50 years work, which was pretty good as they were only built for 15-20 years service. That was the last time I was in Marple. I feel sure that the route to Macclesfield would have been a useful one to have retained as it did not seem to duplicate any other route. Middlewood Lower has some unusual access arrangements as you have to go via the Higher station to get access to it. Thank you for these most interesting video presentations which are very much appreciated by us.

Going back to the first episode on this route, going back to the early '80's there used to be a place in Bollington that made Christmas Crackers, I can't remember what it was called or exactly where the location was but I'm pretty sure it was in some of the old remaining railway buildings. I've tried searching for information on it and can't find even a single mention of it now.(If anyone in the comments has any idea what I'm talking about can you give a reply here please).

Brilliant pair of videos Ant! Rose Hill was listed for closure with the rest of the stations. However, it was reprieved due to the high level of commuter usage to Manchester & Stockport. I visited the line many times in the 1980's and walked it before it was transformed into the Middlewood Way. First walked the complete Middlewood Way in 1985, at that time you could walk all the way into Macclesfield, that was before they used the trackbed to build the new bypass. 🙂👍
